1. What is Mailman?
Mailman is software for managing electronic mail discussion and e-newsletter lists. Mailman is integrated with the web, making it easy for users to manage their accounts and for list owners to administer their lists. Mailman supports built-in archiving, automatic bounce processing, content filtering, digest delivery, spam filters, and more. You can read more about Mailman's features at the GNU Mailman website.
2. How do I recover/reset my list's Administration password?
To get your list's Administration password emailed to you, go to your list's Info page ...
- Regular lists - http://www.mailmanlist.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/LISTNAME (or mailmanlists.net.au ...)
- Pro lists - http://lists.YOURDOMAINDAME/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/LISTNAME
... then scroll to the bottom of the page and in the last text box - enter your email address and click the "Unsubscribe or edit options" button.
This will take you to the password recovery page.
3. How do I recover/reset my My account password?
To get your My account password emailed to you, go the password recovery page and enter your email address.
Note: Your My account password is different to your list Administration password. You can change it once you are logged in.
4. What is My account?
My account is where you can login to get information about your account with MailmanLists. Check your expiry date, the number of subscribers, export a file of all your subscribers, change your password, change your email, and view your transaction history and receipts (or tax-invoices if you are Australian).
5. What happens if the number of subscribers exceeds my limits?
Your My account will display an alert when you have exceeded your limit and display an 'Upgrade' link. We'll also email you to let you know and ask you to upgrade your account. We allow a 10% overun.
6. My webhost no longer provides Mailman. Can I move my list here?
Certainly. Simply sign up for a new list from the Order a list page, and let us know if you need a hand bringing your subscribers across.
7. How do I get people to subscribe to my list?
For people to subscribe to you list, you can direct them to you list's "Info" page. You can put a link on your own website, or in the footer of your emails. And, if you know HTML you can edit the appearance of your Info page to fit in with your website.
For regular lists, the link will be - http://www.mailmanlist.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/YOURLIST
For Pro lists, the link will be - http://lists.YOURDOMAIN/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/YOURLIST
13. Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Within reason, yes. If you change your mind within a few days and haven't used the list, we'll happily refund your money via PayPal.
14. Can I use my own domain for my lists?
Certainly. Simply order a Pro list, and enter your domain in the box provided. The list address will be in the format of "mylist@lists.mydomain". You'll get instructions on making an addition to your DNS records when you order.
15. Can I use another word instead of "lists." with my domain on a Pro list?
Sure. Just let us know what you would like.
16. Is there a special rate for community organisations?
Not a special rate, but we will add a free list or two to an order.
